Who Chooses the checkered flag as the Monster Energy Cup Series heads to Watkins Glen?
Here are our picks for the last road race of the season.
Winner: Kyle Busch
After taking his first checkered flag of the season a week at Pocono, rowdy is out for blood. After winning his first Xfinity Series race at The Glen on Saturday, Busch will start from the pole on Sunday because he chases his third career win in the track. From our perspective, as long as Busch does not mess or see his motor fail, he must at least finish in the top five.
Contenders: Joey Logano, Martin Truex Jr..
We are not really prepared to give up on the 2016 championship event, particularly after his second-place complete in the NASCAR Xfinity Series race. Logano marched out his whole Cup crew on Saturday and they did not disappoint. His team knows it’s win or go home, so anticipate the 2015 Watkins Glen winner to take his shot at Victory Lane on Sunday. In terms of Truex Jr., nicely his r??sum?? speaks for itself. The points leader possesses a ridiculous 29 playoff points, 14 period wins, eight top-fives plus three race wins. Truex Jr. directed the most overall laps at Sonoma in June before suffering engine failure with just 25 to proceed. Best believe he has not forgotten about that…
Wild Card: AJ Allmendinger
We were not so high on the road course expert back in Sonoma, and for good reason. Allmendinger completed 35th, despite almost winning a stage in June. This time around we think it’s going to be different. Despite a fair run in practice, Allmendinger’s results at Watkins Glen talk for themselves. Besides a win in 2014, he’s got a normal finish within the top 10 there. Don’t be surprised if Allmendinger performs spoiler to a motorist on the playoff bubble Sunday.
